ANC Youth League leader from the Moses Mabhida region, Sthembiso Mhlongo, was murdered at his home in Howick in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Mdumiseni Ntuli, ANC KZN spokesperson, explains that Mhlongo was shot in his house by suspects who claimed to be members of the Saps.
He says these killings usually happen in ANC branches where political tensions are rife, but in this instance, he says they are in the dark and don't know what the real cause is.
There is no position that Mlhongo was pursuing, he was merely a delegate of his branch.— Mdumiseni Ntuli, ANC KZN spokesperson
It is quite mysterious and difficult to put a finger on it.— Mdumiseni Ntuli, ANC KZN spokesperson
It will be really difficult to prove that this was the consequence of any kind of factionalism.— Mdumiseni Ntuli, ANC KZN spokesperson
Ntuli says the police have distanced themselves from the case saying none of its members were involved, and they had no reason to go to Mhlongo's house, as there was no criminal case against him.
