Is buying Omega 3 really worth it?

A conversation between Mr. Active and Aubrey had us questioning if Omega 3 is worth the cost? David Katz, also known as Mr Active chats to #WeekendBreakfast host Aubrey about the research and benefits of Omega 3.

A lot of studies have supported that people who consume fishy foods have a lower risks of heart disease says Katz. He adds that taking a high-quality fish oil supplement may benefit your heart, brain and overall health. Omerga 3 is a super oil that gives you brainpower, it thins the blood and assists the joints says Katz.

Katz highlights that research and data support the benefits of taking a high-quality fish oil supplements.

I’ve been taking it for ages and I think as you get a bit older, it can help you.

David Katz, fitness expert

There are three different types of omega-3s:

Their acronyms are EPA, DHA and ALA says Katz. Katz breaks it down by saying that those that come from fish and fish oils, are specific to EPA and DHA.

As we get a little bit older, to be lubricating your joints a little bit more with a good supplement like Omega 3 can only benefit.

David Katz, fitness expert

A New York Times headline about fish oil caused confusion among consumers. The March 2015 article “Fish Oil Claims Not Supported by Research”, referred to a study that suggested omega-3 fats aren’t quite worth the extra money says Katz.

Katz adds that getting good, quality oil from fish based products is expensive. It’s not a cheap product says Katz.
