Label Nites: Dedicated music listening parties in Jozi

Seasoned deejays Clive Mofokeng and Neo Makongoza are the founders of Label Nites, a monthly listening session party in Joburg, that’s inspired by a shared love for alternative electronic music.

Mofokeng and Makongoza have built a space to showcase the best of production stables from all-over the world.

“On a usual night out at a club or bar, we never have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in what we’re listening to because of the active environment and distractions. Listening to music in an intimate session makes you appreciate it more,” says Makongoza about experiencing Label Nites.

Partyers will enjoy a wide-ranging blend of genres like nu-jazz, acid house and downtempo. With each session dedicated to one label whose music they play over a two-hour long stretch.

One such earlier this month was music from Detroit-based record label Kolour Recordings, and deejay extraordinaire Mvelo. In the lead up to the event co-owner of Kolour Recordings, Oscar P has kindly shared an abstract house mix.
