Gwede Mantashe: We are going to that conference and we are ready for it

ANC General Secretary Gwede Mantashe says the PGC will be completed by next week Tuesday, as branches have been given an extension.

He criticised the narrative that there are only two camps within the ANC.

The Midday Report's asked Mantashe if there is apprehension within the party over candidates.

There is no apprehension. People support candidates they want to support. That is what is called democracy.

With less than 3 weeks to go until the December Elective Conference, Mantashe says the conference will continue as planned.

According to Mantashe, the Free State will hold a provincial general council (PGC) to nominate its preferred presidential candidate on Tuesday.

A conference is intended to nominate leadership. There is a new narrative in South Africa that a conference is a battleground that I don't understand... and if you don't hold conferences and elect leadership you are going to complain of dictatorship.

Mantashe also commented on the situation in KwaZulu-Natal where there is an ongoing legal battle after the courts rendered the province’s party leadership and the 2015 conference at which they were elected‚ invalid.

He says the ANC does not have a problem with people who go to court but prefers that its members settle issues through internal processes.

If you want to take the ANC to court it's your right... people go to court in majority of cases, after listening to the outcome of the conference, and if they loose the conference they go to court and say to the courts, remove the elected leadership and install us.
