Cape woman shares moving story of surviving gang rape ordeal

Cape Town woman Lily Reed has retold the story of her horrific rape ordeal and the journey to spiritual healing which came after.

Reed was gang-raped, robbed and beaten by twelve armed men during a home invasion in Malawi in 2012.

Her six year-old daughter and her partner’s nine year-old son were held hostage to witness the events of that night.

In her book The Dark Seed, she writes about finding hope and forgiveness following the traumatic experience.

She says that the ordeal helped her learn more about herself and the determination of the human spirit.

Reed has now devoted her life to helping counsel and empower other rape survivors and vulnerable women.

It was an absolute tragedy what happened, but I've come out of it so string.
