The new show, Durban Beach Rescue 2 will make you rethink the job of lifeguards.
The fast-paced show reveals the daily grind of lifeguards, who are entrusted with keeping swimmers safe especially during the festive season, when throngs of people make their way to the beaches from all over the country.
These Durban-based life guards are highly trained and pledge to maintain a record of zero drownings, and usually have their hands full with unruly bathers not wanting to heed their safety calls and lost children adding to their challenges.
The things that the life guards have to go through on a daily basis during the festive season is phenomenal, says Edwards.
The central beaches, that’s where you get the big crowds, and then up north in Umhlanga it’s all about the conditions and the rocks.— Eddie Edwards, Creator of Durban Beach Rescue
The life guards deal with everything from sharks to jellyfish and even stabbing and assaults.
What I wanted to do was to get in among that crowd and tell the real story of the people there.— Eddie Edwards, Creator of Durban Beach Rescue
Durban Beach Rescue 2 airs on the travel channel, every Monday at 20:00 CAT
