UniteBehind Metrorail Monitoring Project has compiled an interim report for the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Portfolio Committee on Finance, surrounding state capture at Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).
Zackie Achmat of #UniteBehind says the interim report gives a breakdown on how state capture occurred at PRASA, and that leaked documents presented in it were provided by whistle blowers who were afraid this would be covered up.
Achmat says that the documents show that former public protector Thuli Madosela asked that every contract above R10 million be investigated between 2012 and 2015.
What this report show us is that a process of state capture happened at PRASA, which probably started before, around 2007 and there is evidence that President Zuma's network of friends ... unduly benefited through their company's from contracts.— Zackie Achmat, #UniteBehind
What we can see from the contracts is R2.5 billion of R15 billion was definitely irregular, but there is not enough supporting documents for another R3.5 billion.— Zackie Achmat, #UniteBehind
For Achmat, the fact that there is no documentation for such a large sum show that documents were concealed, destroyed and falsified in addition to having tenders rigged.
