Solidarity rubbishes Brian Molefe's bid to be reinstated

Trade union Solidarity says former Brian Molefe's bid to be reinstated is absurd.

The former Eskom CEO has argued for his reinstatement amid a court battle to have him pay back a R30 million payout.

Molefe's lawyers told the North Gauteng High Court that he had retired from the parastatal on the basis of early retirement, but this was ruled invalid, and therefore he cannot be blamed for misunderstanding what he was entitled to in terms of early retirement.

Ray White spoke to Deputy General Secretary of Trade Union Solidarity Dirk Hermann.

Molefe says the board made the decision on an early retirement, not himself. And he said that the fund paid out, and he was actually only a victim of different institutions that made big mistakes. But how on earth can you think you are a victim if you are a CEO? I don't think there is one chance he can survive that.

Dirk Hermann, Deputy General Secretary of Trade Union Solidarity

That is an absurd situation that is more than just a mistake. This is actually fraudulent, and that is why we also look at criminal charges at this stage.
