What the court verdicts will mean for the ANC elective conference

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Free State, the Eastern Cape and Kwazulu-Natal is in turmoil.

Another court room battle is underway between the divided ANC members in KZN in the Pietermaritzburg High Court with the provincial executive applying to appeal a court ruling that nullifies the elective.

In September, Judge Jerome Mnguni declared the 2015 provincial elective conference unlawful and void after claims that there were irregularities in the gathering.

Ray White spoke to political analyst Lukhona Mnguni on The Midday Report, about what this means for the ANC national elective conference coming up in December.

The status of provinces itself, even if it is under question, you just simply suspend the delegation of the province, it is not a big delegation in so far as its percentage of the total number of delegates at the conference.

He says the court verdict will affect about 24 to 28 branches.

Those branches have to go back and hold their general meetings, renominate, and that has to be done in a manner that is constitutionally sound. Then those branches can proceed and go to national conference irrespective of the status of the provincial conference.

With the KZN one, the PEC remains in power unless the opposing side gets the execution order that is currently being debated now in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
