"It's clear that there is a lot of wrong doing in PRASA" - Scopa chairperson

For almost a year, National Treasury has kept the lid on almost 200 investigations into Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) contracts, which show that up to R2.5 billion was siphoned off in contracts which should never have been signed.

This has been exposed in a report complied by #UniteBehind for Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) and the Portfolio Committee on Finance, surrounding state capture at(PRASA).

Themba Godi, Scopa chairperson says that he has received notification of a report, which may be from #UniteBehind, but he not aware of them formally submitting the report yet.

Even tough I have not seen the report yet, one cannot pass on these allegations beyond PRASA.

Themba Godi, Scopa chairperson

Godi says in the previous financial year PRASA has the highest level of irregular expenditure. This year they have not yet submitted their financials, because there was lack of competent authority to authorise those submissions.

From where we are standing as Scopa, it is very clear that there is a lot of wrongdoings in PRASA, and we do have an interest in addressing these - whether they be in PRASA or anywhere else.
