Mantashe says Koko is dragging his name into Eskom Inquiry through his daughter

In his testimony at his disciplinary hearing at Eskom, suspended Eskom executive Matshela Koko, alleged that ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe's daughter Mbasa Mantashe was a beneficiary of the corruption at Kusile, along with Eskom's former contracts manager France Hlakudi and executives Abram Masango, and Frans Sithole.

Sikonathi Mantshantsha, Financial Mail Deputy Editor says that Koko's explosive allegations have no substance as far as he is concerned.

The person that has been subjected to these allegations for years now, has been Matshela Koko. He has been accused by his colleagues in many instances for being involved in corruption.

[Koko] has never been tried in in a court of law, or a disciplinary hearing like this one - it is the first time.

Mantshantsha says that accusations Koko made today, mirrored an affidavit that his lawyers distributed last week. He adds that they believe the affidavit was not handed in as part of the formal proceedings.

He adds that he is not sure what Koko is trying to do with his allegations, particularity with regards to Mbasa Mantashe involvement. This is because Mantashe has reposed to Eskom inquiry and left the company prior to the dates Koko accuses her of corruption.

Mantshantsha says he spoke to Gwede Mantashe on this matter.

Mr Mantashe said that Matshela Koko is dragging his name into this unnecessary. These are his words exactly: 'because the Mantashe name attracts flies. He is bringing me into this case, when he know my daughter has a different name."
