Ray White spoke to Miss South Africa and Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters who is in New York ready to take on her new role.

Demi-Leigh Nel- Peters is in New York to kick off her duties as Miss Universe.

Nel-peters competed against 90 contestants to become the second South African ever to win the title.

She spoke to Ray White on The Midday Report about the moment she was crowned, the significance of the event and what she will miss most about SA.

I think pageants have changed so much over the years, especially Miss Universe. This is not just a beauty pageant anymore, this is a platform a young woman is given to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people in her community, in her country, especially in the world.

Demi-Leigh Nel- Peters, Miss South Africa and Miss Universe

A platform like Miss Universe has not only launched the careers of so many women but it gives you a platform to stand for something, have an opinion and use that.
