For the first time, since the revamp of the Circuit, Historic and Endurance Racing returns to Kyalami later today. The National Historic Festival will include the final round of the Historic Tour as well as a round of the South African Endurance Championship.
Fans will be treated to a feast of Historic Motor sport. The Historic component will include the Pre 66 Sports & GT’s, the pre 66 Legends of the Nine hour, the pre 90 Sports & GT’s, the Pre 80 Saloons, Classic Thoroughbreds and the hugely popular Pursuit Series. As a bonus we will see the Lotus Challenge and the Formula Ford Kent, who celebrate 50 years of racing this year.
But don’t be misled by the word Historic, a Ford GT40 built in 1965 is still capable of reaching speeds of 260km/hour!
Right through the categories, you will witness wheel to wheel racing, no quarter given, no quarter asked.
From the SAEC we will see more modern but equally awesome machinery fighting it out for placings but more importantly the Index of Performance honours, where a driver or team are rewarded for their consistent performance.
The Sports and GT class sees the most modern machinery doing battle in two eight lap sprint races.
Witness History in Motion at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit today! Gates open from 7am.
