Death of Joburg jogger highlights need for motorist and runner awareness

702's Stephen Grootes looks at how safe it is to jog on the streets of Johannesburg.

This follows an incident where a female jogger was knocked down and killed by a car on Saturday afternoon on Hendrik Potgieter Road in Johannesburg.

Levin says motorists and runners need to learn to share the roads and respect one another.

He advises that runners wear reflective gear so that they are easily spotted and don't run with music in their ears.

It's really about motorists saying, these are the users of the roads and let's be careful, and let's be careful with other people on the road whether walking, cycling or running.
