'ANC delegates in voting booths will not be voting for anything called unity'

ANC Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu says ANC members should not be concerned about the 'unity' votes in Mpumalanga because no one will be voting for anyone called 'unity' during the elective conference.

When the delegates get to the voting booth, we know they will not be voting for anything called 'unity'.

Jackson Mthembu, ANC Chief Whip

The ANC elective conference is due to take place from 16 to 22 December in Nasrec, Johannesburg and Mthembu says it's all systems go.

He says all the branches of the ANC know who their preferred candidates for president are.

I think it was just opportunistic for one individual who wants to parade himself as a paragon of unity outside of what unity stands for in the ANC.

Jackson Mthembu, ANC Chief Whip

Mthembu says the elective conference will not only focus on electing the president but take stock of what the party has achieved since its last conference in Mangaung, particularly when it comes to issues of national communication and the SABC.

One issue that will come up will be, have we managed to stabilise the SABC as it was part of the policy conference decision? So we will be reporting to conference, that yes, we have stabilised the SABC, yes we have stopped the rot through parliamentary inquiry and yes we have a board that is up to the task...

Jackson Mthembu, ANC Chief Whip

Mthembu says conference will also discuss the migration from digital to analogue. He says as the ANC government they have not done well in that sphere as they were supposed to have migrated in 2015.

He says they are currently in communication with the new minister of communication to ensure that the migration happens no later than the end of 2018.

Conference will have to be assured that indeed we will be migrating come December 2018.

Jackson Mthembu, ANC Chief Whip

There are issues that have cropped up in the public domain about MultiChoice trying to influence the migration and to influence government policy.

Jackson Mthembu, ANC Chief Whip

As the ANC we must investigate the veracity of these allegations and if they are proven to be true, there must be consequences to anybody who would have bribed some people to influence government policy negatively around setup-up boxes.
