#Summer17 Holiday Guide

Kids get to explore the Adventures of Oaky in audio this holiday

Holidays mean parents are inevitably looking for ideas to keep little ones entertained. Whether travelling, sitting on the beach or staying at home, there's a four-part audiobook series sure to help entertain in a positive manner.

This Oaky series are short storybooks written by Lead SA Hero Athol Williams. Williams is Founder of Read to Rise, an NGO that believes in the power of literacy and education to transform lives. They have distributed over 65 000 copies of the Oaky series to Primary School learners in underprivileged communities and continue to use literacy and education to transform lives.

By purchasing a copy of any Oaky books in the series, you automatically make a donation to Read to Rise. Every book sold ensures that two underprivileged children get an Oaky book, thereby encouraging them to read.

To raise awareness of this great campaign, LEAD SA has teamed up with Cape Talk’s Abongile Nzelenze and Koketso Sachane and KFM’s Sechaba G and Shirlen Barends to produce something truly unique for the Festive Season. Each presenter has voiced one of the cheerful stories which we think are bound to keep kids entertained!

Once you've enjoyed the episodes below - please consider purchasing copies of the books - as a charitable act helping those who are less fortunate.

Oaky and the Sun – Voiced by Sherlin Barends

Story about an acorn who is trying to find the right direction to grow. The story encourages Oaky to ignore what the wind is doing and rather to listen to the advice of the sun, which implores Oaky to grow upwards toward the bright light. It encourages us all, young and old, to stay true to our purpose. A story about Oaky who is trying to find his true purpose in life.

Oaky the Brave Acorn – Voiced by Abongile Nzelenzele

Oaky the Brave Acorn is a fun story about an acorn who must take a huge leap of faith to give himself the chance to fulfil his destiny. When it counts, Oaky proves himself to be a brave acorn.

Oaky the Happy Tree – Voiced by Koketso Sachane

A big oak tree named Oaky who learns the secret to being happy. A fun, happy story that will leave a smile on every reader's face.

What is happening to Oaky? - Voiced by Sechaba G

An intriguing story involving interactions between Oaky, the oak tree, and his three friends. The story teaches us that change is part of life and that change can be good for us. We also learn about the value of friendship.
