LISTEN: Father of drowned toddler speaks of dangers and heartbreak

Capetalk's John Maytham speaks to Daniel Weber, the father of 20 month-old Connor Weber from Rondebosch who fell into a bin of water on Sunday and drowned.

When Connor was discovered by their nanny, he was rushed to hospital but he died and now his father wants to spread the word so that others can learn from this tragedy.

This is something that no parent should never have to go through. We just think if anything good could come out of this, we should raise awareness to other parents and let people know about the Red Cross Children's hospital and how amazing they are.

Weber says the bin that Connor drowned in it was used to save up water as Cape Town is experiencing water shortages.

He says they usually cover up the bins but the one that Connor drowned in was the only one that was not covered and he never thought their child could reach it.

I mean the amount of water that Connor drowned in was so small that is beyond belief and made us think that everyone needs to be aware and be very vigilant with any open water on their premises.

Daniel Weber, Father to Connor Weber

There are a lot of people that leave their children with their nanny and we know she loved like a son. It was just a tragic event and we keep on playing it in our minds how we could've changed things, do we get angry, is there blame - no matter what we cant change the fact that we can't bring him back.
