ANC 2017 Elective Conference

Crucial that credentials disputes sorted for #ANC54 conference

The ANC 54th Elective Conference has been delayed one again because the credential process has not yet been completed.

ANC Deputy secretary-general, Jessie Duarte said that the voting process would not start before the all the credentials have been completed.

EWN reporter Ziyanda Ngcobo says it is crucial that the credentials are verified to know whether the people who are attending are legitimate members.

This is the most important part of the conference because it links to the legitimacy of the conference and it poses a threat if it is deemed as being illegitimate because we could see the conference collapsing.

Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter

The credentials process is where you confirm whether the people attending the conference are meant to be there, which branch had sent them, how many are they and if everybody attending is a legitimate ANC member.

Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter

Ngcobo says there's been some kind of chaos with the registrations process which took place at University of Johannesburg and it was with the provinces that were barred from participating in the elections.

There was a mix-up, delegates who are meant to be from the Eastern Cape were now from KwaZulu-Natal list or there were inflated numbers.
