JOHANNESBURG - Credentials have now been adopted at the African National Congress (ANC)'s national conference at Nasrec in southern Johannesburg.
This is a big moment for the elective conference and means that the programme will now continue as scheduled after long delays and allegations of bogus delegates and problems with registrations.
A total of 4,776 delegates are set to cast their ballots for the next ANC president.
ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte confirmed on Saturday that the programme had to be delayed to make sure the information of all delegates had been correctly captured and verified.
This is a significant moment for the conference as it was feared that should there be a potential collapse it would happen during the credentials phase.
Credentials have been adopted, however, there is still a long road ahead and it’s likely that there will be further rigorous debates and contestation around the acceptance of these credentials.
