New ANC president expected to be announced on Monday morning
EWN reporter Masa Kekana says the ANC outgoing deputy general secretary, Jessie Duarte has made an announcement that the credential process of the elective conference is officially adopted.
Duarte made the announcement that the PECs of KZN as well as the Free State will not be able to vote but they will be allowed to participate in the conference.
She did mention that there 35 disqualified branches who were converted to non voting delegates but can participate.Masa Kekana, EWN Reporter
Kekana says Duarte rubbished reports that there were inflated numbers, saying that they have learned from the court outcomes and the last thing they would want to do is to land back in court.
While there was a delay she says it was a necessary delay to ensure that this process is as transparent as possible and that they get the right people to vote.Masa Kekana, EWN Reporter
According to Kekana, Duarte said right now they are going into a closed meeting where they will be drafting the rules of conference and discussing any possible changes to the ANC constitution. It is only after these discussions that the nominations of the Top Six will resume.
We were expecting to get the results of the new leader by this evening but Duarte said she doesn't think that will be possible and that the earliest we can get the result is tomorrow morning.Masa Kekana, EWN Reporter
She said this is something that can't be rushed because it is a delicate procedure.Masa Kekana, EWN Reporter
