Cyril Ramaphosa's appointment of ANC president has led to analysts breaking down what this means in terms of the powers at his disposal.
Tiso Blackstar associate editor, Ranjeni Munusamy raises the fact that even though Justice Moegoeng Moegoeng has been tasked with setting up the inquiry into state capture, President Jacob Zuma still sets the terms of reference for this.
The ability to recall Jacob Zuma is no longer in the hands of Cyril Ramaphosa but rather in the hands of this mish mashed collective that now exists in the ANC.— Ranjeny Munusamy, Tiso Blackstar associate editor
Speaking to Stephen Grootes at Nasrec where the 54th ANC elective conference is still underway, Munusamy said it was interesting that the Gupta's have already come up in their conversation, just a day after the election of the new ANC leadership.
Uppermost in people's minds is the integrity of the state. The Guptas had access to patronage via the State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and some of the provinces, particularly the Free State... now there's a direct line to Luthuli House and this could open up avenues to deployees in the state.— Ranjeny Munusamy, Tiso Blackstar associate editor
Munusamy said Ramaphosa's expression fell when David Mabuza was elected his Deputy.
