ANC 2017 Elective Conference

'If members call for SG recount, we're calling for revote of all 6 positions'

North West ANC Provincial Chairperson, Supra Mahumapelo is not prepared to have the votes for the general secretary of the ANC be recounted.

Senzo Mchunu, former KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairperson, lost to Free State chair Ace Magashule for the general secretary position by 24 votes.

Magashule received 2 360 votes while Mchunu received 2 336.

Our advice to these comrades who are complaining is that you have the democratic right to raise it in the ANC. But we wonder why the representatives who were counting did not raise that matter because all provinces and the Leagues have two representatives in the electoral commission.

Supra Mahumapelo, North West ANC Provincial Chairperson

They should have picked this matter up and raised it there. My proposal is that it should go to the steering committee and it should end there because if it comes to plenary we are ready for that - and we will call for the re-voting of all six positions.

Supra Mahumapelo, North West ANC Provincial Chairperson

Mahumapelo says people should put the interest of the ANC first and if there are any suspicions they should be raised with the leadership and leave it there - 'Llet the leadership deal with it', he adds.

He says he is not backing down on his stand that if a recount is insisted on, they are calling for the re-voting of all six positions.

We supported Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and we thought we were going to win but we lost. That is a closed chapter and we have moved on.

Supra Mahumapelo, North West ANC Provincial Chairperson

How do they know about the 68 people because this was a secret ballot, this means they have meddled with the processes during the voting.
