Gynecologist shares tips on enjoying the festive season during pregnancy

Facing the festive season with a baby bump may be daunting for expecting moms. Between navigating social commitments and travel plans with a full-time passenger in your belly - it can be a very challenging.

Gynecologist Dr Howard Manyonga says that you can feel left out when you’re pregnant, but you can still participate in activities as long as they are recommended for pregnancy.

The first thing to take into account – it’s a very hot time of the year, and one has to keep a very good level of hydration.

Dr Howard Manyonga, Gynecologist

Dr Manyonga says that you need to always carry water to ensure you’re hydrated. He adds that pregnant women need to wear loose fitting shoes because when it’s hot and you’re on your feet, they tend to swell.

Alcohol consumption during pregnancy can have a lifelong physical and mental effect on your baby. Pregnant women and couples trying to conceive should not drink any alcohol, as Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders cannot be reversed.

Alcohol is a no no, not even a sip because you never know how the baby will react with alcohol.

Dr Howard Manyonga, Gynecologist

Dr Manyonga says that there’s not harm if you’re eating in moderation. He adds that if you’re not watching the amount that you consume, it can be detrimental to your health.
