How maggots can save the world and make this man millions

The world’s first commercial waste to protein fly farm is nearing completion in Cape Town and by “herd size” will be the largest farming operation on the planet.

Farmers will harvest the larvae of 9 billion flies to produce food for chickens, pigs and farmed fish.

This is the first of 40 such farms that are in the pipeline.

AgriProtein, the company who invented the process, rears flies on food that is past its sell-by date, manure and abattoir waste. They then harvest the larvae and dry it to create feed for livestock.

We interviewed Jason Drew, Co-Founder of AgriProtein.
