Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says the department is working to address the placements of over 30 000 pupils.
Pupils applying for Grade 1 and 8 have still not been placed for the 2018 academic year.
Lesufi says over 8000 parents have been offered alternative placements, and he has pleaded with parents to consider these.
We believe we will deal with it because we have analysed every application. What we are trying to do, to all those parents we are giving them until the 13th or the 14th to come in and get an alternative placement and then from the remaining 18 000 that need placement we will then be in a position to put them and distribute the remaining....— Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng Education MEC
