[LISTEN] Floods expected to hit Tshwane and Ekurhuleni the hardest

Various emergency services are on standby on Tuesday afternoon as a storm moves over parts of Gauteng. Tshwane and Ekurhuleni are expected to bear the brunt of the rain.

Head at Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management Centre, Dr Elias Sithole chats about the storm and the people currently on the ground.

Dr Sithole says that each and every municipality has its own plans and teams. He adds that they also have a rescue team on standby, which includes 120 individuals that can be called upon to assist.

We have received information from the South African Weather Service that we might experience a severe thunderstorm says Dr Sithole.

It’s more like flash flooding which is happening on the roads and other areas.

Dr Sithole says that they have not received any cases of problems in other areas. He adds that certain individuals from the municipality are overseeing certain areas.
