Drug kingpins have infiltrated Rustenburg - caller

Police are searching for at least 50 suspects implicated in the torching of six buildings in Rustenburg.

The group targeted buildings believed to be drug dens, on Wednesday night.

Authorities say calm has now been restored but police are keeping a close eye on the area.

Caller, Marcel Van der Watts is a Human Traffic Incident Manager at the National Freedom Network.

He says Rustenburg has become a central place for drug distribution.

Rustenburg is strategically displaced from the big city life of Pretoria so a lot of the big decision makers and kingpins are actually finding themselves in Rustenburg. We know who they are, we know where they live, the community knows and sadly there is definitely a trust deficit between the community and local police officials.

It is never just drugs and drug dens, it always intercepts with other organised crimes. The highway between Pretoria and then Northern Cape, Kuruman, it is quite a big network.
