The Swartland Municipality has granted permission for sand mining operations in various parts of the Swartland.
The practice has been approved for the Paardeberg on Farm 841/12, Granaatfontein and Farm 848, La Rhine Paardeberg, Malmesbury.
Prominent winemaker Eben Sadie, of Sadie Family Wines, plans on challenging the municipality in court.
He says various organisations are involved in the court battle and adds that a crowd-funding initiative will be created to help cover the legal fees.
