6 buildings burnt in Rustenburg CBD

A rampage on Wednesday night saw residents torching alleged drug dens, but Vish Naidoo says rather provide Saps with information.

While police continue to monitor tensions in Rustenburg, officials have urged community members to be their eyes and ears in order to curb an apparent drug problem in the area.

Residents went on a rampage on Wednesday night, torching six buildings believed to be drug dens.

They say they are fed up that drugs and prostitution have become a norm in the city.

Responding to complaints by residents over inactive policing, the Saps's Vish Naidoo says these are isolated incidents. But, he agrees there is a lot of work to be done.

You will have isolated incidents where police are not acting and we are of course not going to tolerate that. If members don't comply then we take action because that is tantamount to defeating the ends of justice.

Vish Naidoo, National Police Spokesperson

He asks that community members come forward and complain about Saps members that are not doing the work as they are supposed to.

Naidoo says they are continuing in their efforts to make arrests, with the implementation of the National Drug Master Plan.

We doing everything in our power to identify the sources. We need to nip this problem in the bud. Find out who the big distributors are in order to overcome this, for as long as we don't have that information it is going to be difficult.

Vish Naidoo, National Police Spokesperson
