The Allergy Society of South Africa has discovered a rise in allergy and intolerance among South Africans. They have done a study which uncovered some new trends in food allergies that differ to 10 years ago.
A researcher at The Allergy Society of South Africa, Maresa Botha, says they wanted to find out how extensive this problem is and what is the cause is.
The study found that 2.5% of 1 to 3-year-old children in Cape Town had a confirmed food allergy, most commonly to egg (1.9%), some to peanuts (0.8%) and very few to milk and fish (0.1%).
