'Trump has made no disguise of his racism and bigotry'

American President Donald Trump used vulgar language in a meeting with lawmakers at the White House asking why should the US accept immigrants from Haiti and "shithole countries" in Africa rather than places like Norway.

His comments have been slammed and been described as racist.

Head of the international relations department at Wits University, Professor John Stremlau says it is no surprise that Trump would utter such words.

Trump has made no disguise of his racism and bigotry. It is amazing that 63 million Americans voted for him...

The White House issued a statement saying that Trump supports immigration policies that welcome "those who can contribute to our society".

The White House did not deny or condemn Trump's remarks.
