[LISTEN] Protest action erupts at Unisa Sunnyside Campus

During registration proceedings at Unisa Sunnyside Campus early Friday morning, it’s reported that there were clashes between members of the ANC youth league and the EFF student command.

Workers at the University were told to stop working and registration has now been postponed.

President of the EFF Student Command Team, Peter Keetse joined Gugu to chat about how the protest unfolded and management's response to the call for free education.

It is indeed true that there was a protest action at Unisa Sunnyside Campus says Keetse.

He adds that it occurred mainly due to management's refusal to open the late application process, Unisa’s lack of clarity on its stance on free fee education, and the online process which he says is frustrating.

Keetse says that the student command has made a call for all universities to allow walk-ins for the sake of accommodating late applicants. He adds that Unisa was one of the institutions that remained adamant in refusing the walk-ins.

The ultimate rupture of protests on campus was a result of a negative response from the institution, says Keetse.

We regretted NSFAS on the basis that they lack administrative skills.
