'Hawks obtained warrant of arrest for a Gupta brother'

The City Press are reporting that the Hawks have obtained warrants for the arrest of at least one of the Gupta brothers.

They are apparently waiting for prosecutors at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to sign off the warrants so that the arrests can be effected.

Nicki Gules, assistant editor of news and investigations at City Press say they can't give out too much information at this time, as the story is still unfolding.

The latest that we have is that these arrest are imminent. Sources at the Hawks weren't able to tell us exactly which Gupta brother was going to be arrested, it may be more than one.

Nicki Gules, Assistant Editor of news and investigations at City Press

Gules says that these arrests were ready to go last month already.

Zwelinzima Vavi, secretary general at South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) says that they have written letters to Eskom, the NPA and Hawks to act on the corruption present with Gupta linked companies Trillian and McKinsey.

He says Shuan Abrahams responded on behalf of the NPA, saying they have been conducting an investigation since March last year, and wont act until there is evidence.

The affidavit we submitted to the police had concrete evidence, that collected all of he public information.
