Project Kilimanjaro has committed to planting 50 million trees within the next 10 years in the Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania.
To kickstart this project, they will be planting 1 million trees on Earth Day, which falls on April 22.
Co-founder and project leader of the Kilimanjaro Project, Sarah Scott says she realised that raising awareness of what is happening to the environment is not enough and something needed to be done.
The change is being seen on Mount Kilimanjaro where the glacier at the peaks of the mountain is decreasing and millions of trees are cut down each year in that region alone.
I was inspired by India where about a year ago they planted about 66 million trees in one date.— Sarah Scott, Co-founder and project leader of the Kilimanjaro Project
The Kilimanjaro Project is currently running a crowdfunding initiative to make the project possible at a dollar per tree.
