Ramaphosa should appoint NPA boss immediately - Corruption Watch

The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) is expected to serve a preservation order on Gupta-linked McKinsey and Trillian on Tuesday to safeguard assets worth R1.6-billion in terms of racketeering laws.

Corruption Watch executive director, David Lewis says the order needs to be followed up with prosecutions of implicated individuals within Eskom, Transnet, SABC as well as some of the Cabinet Ministers.

Saftu general-secretary has praised the Asset Forfeiture Unit for securing a preservation order against McKinsey and Trillian.

Frankly I don't think anybody trusts Shaun Abrahams for the prosecution of anybody close to the Zuma family or the Gupta family.

David Lewis Managing Director for Corruption Watch

Lewis says the courts have empowered the Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa with appointing the new head of the NPA and thinks he should act on it as soon as possible.

If we want to see robust and timely criminal prosecution, that appointment should be done immediately.

Lewis says there are changes within the NPA and there will be more in the coming months because Cyril Ramaphosa is at the helm of the ANC.

He says the good people within the NPA will feel liberated y such a move.

It wouldn't have happened if the leadership of the NPA was still as powerful as they were a couple of months ago and the leadership of the ANC was still in the hands of Zuma.
