The South African Weather Service says cooler temperatures are expected in Gauteng following a heatwave on Monday.
Senior forecaster Venetia Phakula says the hot weather is normal at this time of year.
Phakula says light showers and thunder showers could hit in Gauteng from Thursday onward.
High temperatures are expected to reach other parts of the country such as the Northern Cape and North West for the rest of the week.
Meanwhile, there is no significant rain in sight for the Mother City, currently in the grips of a devastating drought.
Unfortunately there's no good news for Cape Town at least for the next three days.— Venetia Phakula, Senior forecaster at the SA Weather Services
