Questions are being asked about the former crime intelligence operative who appeared at the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Thursday.
Watchdog IPID has been investigating convicted armed robber Morris Tshabalala, also known as Captain KGB. Investigators arrested Tshabalala on Tuesday when he reported to his parole officer.
EWN’s Barry Bateman shed some light on whether Captain KGB was employed by crime intelligence.
Bateman says that there was supposed to be a bail application on Thursday, but the state told the court that IPID is struggling to determine the status of Tshabalala’s employment at crime intelligence.
Bateman adds that the police are reportedly not being helpful with IPID’s investigation.
He adds that accreditation for the ANC’s January 8th statement was discovered in the vehicle Tshabalala was driving, and he was reporting to his parole officer to inform him that he was back in the province.
It’s almost undeniable that he is working for crime intelligence, it’s just under what capacity, and what role he plays.— Barry Bateman, EWN senior reporter
