[LISTEN] Dischem workers claim employer refuses to recognise union

Striking Dischem workers are accusing the company of refusing to pay them bonuses due to their union membership. Hundreds of workers are striking at the companies Midrand officers.

National coordinator at Nupsaw, Solly Malema, chats to Ray White about the nature of the strike, and the demands on the table.

At the moment, the employer is stubborn and no negotiations are taking place.

Malema says that on Wednesday no progress was made at head office, adding that workers picketed and exercised their right to have a trade union on Thursday.

Malema says that when they started the process of establishing a trade union, they had around 200 members and now they have 1 400 members.

We don’t see the reason why the employer is refusing to recognise the union.
