Dlamini insists that she was kept in the dark over Sassa crisis - reporter
Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini insists she was kept in the dark about the looming Sassa payments debacle.
Dlamini faces cross-examination from her two former top officials on Wednesday at the ongoing Sassa Inquiry.
The commission chair, retired Justice Barnard Ngoepe, ruled that former SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) CEO Thokozani Magwaza and Dlamini’s former adviser Zane Dangor be allowed to cross-examine the minister.
Eyewitness News reporter Thando Khubeka says the minister has been questioned over the action she took as soon as she found out about the department's inability to meet the April 2017 deadline.
The minister has acknowledged that she did have regular meetings with work stream leaders and officials appointed to oversee this process.Thando Kubheka, EWN reporter
She is still keeping to her tune to say that she was kept in the dark about the looming crisis,. This also insinuates the question that maybe she was kept in the dark on purpose by these officials. We had the lawyers asking was this the case and she would say that she cannot answer for those people.Thando Kubheka, EWN reporter
