These are the best cars to drive this year (family, work, fun, you name it...)

And the car of the year goes to...

Cars.co.za held its annual Consumer Awards featuring a wide range of automotive players from the local motoring scene.

Motor journalist Ciro De Siena explains that the public voted using a survey and a panel of 18 judges tested all the vehicles in order to determine the winners.

The awards were divided into 13 categories.

De Siena explains that Suzuki won in two categories and scooped brand of the year for the second consecutive year.

The winners are as follows:

Budget Car: Suzuki Ignis 1.2 GL

Compact Hatchback: Mazda2 1.5 Individual

Premium Hatchback: Volkswagen Golf 1.4TSI Comfortline R-Line

Executive SUV: Mercedes GLC250d 4Matic AMG Line

Business Class: BMW 420d Gran Coupe Sport Line Sports Auto

Executive Sedan: Mercedes-Benz E350d Avantgarde

Compact Family Car: Suzuki Vitara 1.6 GLX Auto

Family Car: Mazda CX-5 2.5 Individual

Leisure Double Cab Bakkie: Volkswagen Amarok 3.0 V6 TDI 4Motion Highline Plus

Adventure SUV: Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GD-6 4x4 Auto

Premium SUV: Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine R-Design

Fun Car: Mini John Cooper Works

Performance Car: BMW M2 M-DCT
