City to reroute Newlands Spring to larger site

The City of Cape Town plans to find a new location for the popular Newlands Spring.

The City plans to reroute the water to another site to accommodate the large amounts of congestion and for better regulation.

Councillor JP Smith says the site is not designed for high volumes of traffic.

According to Smith, the City has earmarked the nearby Newlands swimming pool site as the new water collection point.

He says law enforcement and other officials will be deployed at the current site to avert any further scuffles or abuse of water.
