The Political Desk: Cyril will look weak if Zuma delivers SONA - Prince Mashele

Political analyst Prince Mashele says a motion of no confidence set for later this month is the only opportunity to recall President Jacob Zuma.

The African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss Zuma's removal.

There has been mounting pressure to have the President step down, but he has refused.

Mashele suggests Zuma has refused to leave because he has the backing of factions within the NEC.

He knows that his ANC is going to throw a spanner in the works so there will be no agreement.

Prince Mashele, political analyst

It is unprecedented that a day before the SONA, there is an emergency national executive committee, it tells you the depth of the leadership crisis in the ANC.

The other ANC, which is the ANC of Ace Magashule will be smiling looking at the powerlessness of Ramaphosa. They want him to be embarrassed. He is going to be the most embarrassed man in that house. In fact if Jacob Zuma presents the state of the nation address, Cyril Ramaphosa in the minds of South Africans, will look like a very weak president.
