Cops hunt 5 prisoners who escaped during shoot out on Golden Highway

Gauteng police are searching for five prisoners who escaped from a truck on Golden Highway

Gauteng Saps spokesperson, Lungelo Dlamini says the truck was coming from the Gauteng High Court back to the correctional service facility.

While on the way they were attacked by suspects driving a silver-grey BMW who fired at the truck until it lost control.

They managed to make an opening on the side of the truck and the prisoners escaped. The driver was shot in the legs and was taken to hospital.

All the prisoners are wanted for serious crimes. They are all involved in the killings of police officers.

Dlamini says they are in the process of releasing the photos of the prisoners so that the public can identify them and if they know their whereabouts they should contact Crime Stop.
