PR guru describes how she built a powerhouse agency after quitting her '9-to-5'

Entrepreneur Lebo Madiba is a communications expert with nearly 20 years’ experience in the field.

Madiba is the founder and Managing Director of strategic communications agency PR Powerhouse.

She founded PR Powerhouse in 2011 and the agency services blue-chip clients, including diversified digital technology group Ansys.

Madiba started PR Powerhouse with just R 1 000 in her bank account and says there were many challenges at in the first year and a half.

She opened up about her entrepreneurial journey and how she started out, after quitting her job, with just a laptop and internet connection.

I call myself a storyteller. I've been telling stories all my life. I realised at some point that I needed to tell my own story, but I just didn't have the guts.

I bought myself a laptop and 3G card and started working from home.

In my first month I already had a client that signed me up on retainer.

I started working with freelancers, which helped a bit.
