The former national police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Kgomotso Phahlane, and his wife beauty, as well as a car dealer Durand Snyman, made their first appearance in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Pretoria on Thursday.
Phahlane is accused of taking kickbacks in order to secure tenders for police suppliers.
EWN reporter Barry Bateman says the three presented a formal bail application saying that they would not evade justice and that they will fully cooperate with the investigation.
Bateman says the three were granted a bail of R10 000 each and the matter has been postponed until 12 March.
This would give the State sufficient time to finalise the investigation as well as disclose the docket to the defence so they can move towards a trial date.— Barry Bateman, EWN reporter
What is alleged is corruption related to an estimated R900 000, which is related to vehicles either bought from Durant or sponsored by him to the Phahlane couple.— Barry Bateman, EWN reporter
