The Political Desk: Cosatu, SACP believe Ramaphosa is wasting time

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) say they expect a decision on President Jacob Zuma's exit by the end of this weekend.

There has been mounting pressure on Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to conclude negotiations with the President.

Opposition parties has warned if a decision isn’t taken by Sunday evening they’ll expedite an Economic Freedom Fighters-led motion of no confidence in Zuma. The parties have also threatened a national shutdown if he is not removed as president.

Eyewitness News political reporter Clement Manyathela spoke to Cosatu and the SACP on Thursday.

They are very impatient. In fact these are the people that have been at the forefront of Cyril Ramaphosa's support. They have had a lot of confidence in him.

Clement Manyathela, EWN political reporter

They were telling me last night that he is wasting time. They are giving him until the next two days and saying we are expecting that by the end of this weekend those talks will be finalised.

Clement Manyathela, EWN political reporter

Cosatu was quite interesting in their comments because they are saying that this man must stop trying to be a negotiator and saying he needs to start acting.

Clement Manyathela, EWN political reporter

There are some people who think the reason there are delays essentially means President Jacob Zuma is the one in charge of the talks.
