Prominent Durban businessman in jazz festival fraud charge released on bail

Durban socialite and businessman, Mabheleni Ntuli has been released on bail of R 30 000 after handing himself over to the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Friday.

Ntuli, the convener of the interim ANC KwaZulu-Natal leadership Mike Mabuyakhulu, including husband and wife, Siza and Zama Mkhize have been implicated in a case of money laundering – corruption and fraud.

The case relates to the use of R28 million by the economic development department for the North Sea Jazz Festival which had been cancelled.

It is believed Ntuli is a staunch ally of President Jacob Zuma.

Eyewitness News reporter Ziyanda Ngcobo says Ntuli is not new to controversy.

For example, he has also been implicated in a scandal where money was paid by the Mpumalanga government to various suppliers.

He allegedly received R18 million, and that money was supposed to be used for infrastructure services for Mandela's funeral in 2013. However, according to a Sunday Times report, that money was transferred to other people including President Jacob Zuma's wife.
