Usasazo High School is empowering their learner’s through Entrepreneurship

Students from Usasazo High School in Khayelitsha are empowering themselves through entrepreneurship.

The Eskom Development Fund in partnership with the Education with Enterprise Trust held a prize-giving ceremony in celebration of outstanding entrepreneurship education.

Usasazo was named the provincial winner of the competition and the high school received a cheque of R50 000.

Students from the high school have formed a society called the YES (Youth Enterprise Society) club, where they gather to formulate various ideas on how to be entrepreneurs.

Teacher Coordinator at the YES club Kadima Kayembe chats about the conceptualization of the club, and what it aims to do.

Kayembe says that the YES (Youth Enterprise Society) club started in 2016 after it was introduced to them by EWES. She adds that EWES came the school and asked if they were interested in the programme.

I was one of the teachers who attended the workshop says Kayembe, and adds that they thought it was a good opportunity for their learners to cultivate a culture of entrepreneurship.

I really saw that there was a need for us to be involved because we have a serious problem of unemployment in the country.
