DA wants answers relating to Reiger Park principal involved in sex scandal

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng says it has submitted formal questions to Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi on the status of investigations into allegations of sexual abuse at Reiger Park Secondary School in Ekurhuleni.

The party conducted an oversight visit to the school on Monday morning after three teachers and the principal were implicated in a sex scandal at the school.

Videos and pictures of the principal having sex with different pupils in his office went viral on various social media platforms recently. DA shadow MEC for education Khume Ramulifho says while sufficient action has been taken, there are a few gaps.

What has not been done is to replace all those teachers so that learning and teaching do take place. They only substituted two teachers instead of three.

Khume Ramulifho, DA shadow MEC for education

We have submitted formal questions to get a clear indication of the status [of the investigation] cause we were told that the teacher actually resigned last year, but the question is if he resigned last year, why was he at the school at the beginning of this year?

Khume Ramulifho, DA shadow MEC for education

We are failing to get clear indication of where this case is when it comes to the principal. So we will use the parliamentary process where we table questions to the MEC to get a clear indication of what is the status of the principal.
