Liberia's Ellen Sirleaf becomes first woman to be awarded Mo Ibrahim award

Former Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, joins the list of five former heads of state to be awarded the Mo Ibrahim leadership award.

The Mo Ibrahim prize is $5 million which is spread over 10 years and is followed by $200,000 a year for life.

The prize celebrates excellence in African leadership.

It is something really; really exclusive you could argue.

Jean-Jacques Cornish, EWN Africa correspondent

Sirleaf stepped down last month after serving two terms as president in the West African country. Her own party expelled her alleging that she campaigned for now president George Weah during the elections rather than her party's candidate.
